3. Protection of Biodiversity

Protection of Biodiversity

On November 22, pupils from the 1st cycle of the Moure School Center attended a lecture on Biodiversity Protection.

Mr. Francisco, from the Bird Recovery Center of the Peneda Gerês National Park, brought with him two beautiful specimens recovered by the center: an ordinary owl, which aroused the curiosity of all and was the motto  to explain its importance in the balance of the ecosystem, and an adult goshawk, which at the end of the lecture, was released to freedom, two years after starting the recovery.

4.Sustainable Christmas

Exhibition of Christmas cribs performed by students with the participation of parents.

The students of the Basic School of Moure and Ribeira do Neiva, were challenged to create cribs from „old” materials.

In day-to-day we use and get rid of many materials without even thinking about how they could be reused. Although the culture of selective collection and recycling is increasingly present in society, it is still difficult to see a different future for the „junk” product.

The challenge was fulfilled and sustainable creation gave wings to beautiful and tender cribs.

“O meu planeta é o meu lar” (My planet is my home)

Students and teachers observed attentively and   it was possible to discover and observe aspects of the biodiversity of the animal and plant rivers: the presence of various species of birds, fish (barrows, barbs and trout), invertebrates and, in the sample collected , two Iberian frogs; in the vegetation  willows, poplars, alders, chestnut trees, elm trees, oaks, as well as several riparian species were identified:.

It must be  pointed out the presence of some garbage stuck to the vegetation, mainly plastic and textile deserving a new action of cleaning of the river.

The observation of this garbage served as a reminder of the need for its possible reuse, in addition to its  placement in a correct location

A nest of a  blackbird was found.
